Hola Tine,
Sean here, nice post! But I would like to add that
there are one or two decent American djs too. There's
this tall guy with a long ponytail from somewhere out
west. And another tall guy from around there with a
beret. And how about that Canadian guy hanging out in
the midwest? Then there's a Russian woman in DC who is
very promissing - she studied with that Indian guy you
mentioned. Let's not forget the Turkish fellow from
West-by-God-VA either. Wow, I'm starting to feel real
lucky to be right here with all these wonderful DJs.
Even if they lack an Argentine Pedigree.
Of course, some DJs are still learning their trade. I
hear rumors of some issues in NYC. And here in the
'Burgh we are plagued with one of those DJs "who think
tango is background music, and that everyone loves to
dance to Piazzola and Pugliese exclusively." We
sometimes call him "el escobo'n" because what he does
best is to clear the floor.
Sean
P.S. To all of my out of town friends who have not
finalized their travel plans to Pittsburgh for the
milonga this Saturday with a performance by Cecilia
Gonzales and Pablo Pugliese: It's safe to come! I was
finally able to confirm last night that "el escobo'n"
will not be DJing this Saturday.
