Subject: New! Web guide to the BA "nuevo tango" scene

Hi folks,

As many of you know, the "nuevo tango" scene in Buenos Aires is
thriving. A little more than a year ago, Luciana Valle, Dina
Martinez, and Valencia Batiuk created a new practica at Villa
Malcolm--a place where dancers can go to experiment and share ideas in
an environment where anything goes. The practica quickly became so
popular that a number of others opened their doors. You can now
attend a practica almost any day of the week in BA.

At these events, the dominant demographic is dancers in their 20s and
30s, dancing in open embrace, and incorporating a lot of elements that
many people call "nuevo" (colgadas, volcadas, ganchos, sacadas, and
steps in alternative embraces) into their dancing. While the
practicas are the heart of the "nuevo" scene, there are a few milongas
aimed at this audience as well.

In order to help visitors navigate the "nuevo tango" scene, Andres
Amarilla and I have just posted a guide on his website:

https://andresamarilla.com

The guide covers practicas, milongas, weekly classes, special
seminars, and links to instructors teaching what we are terming "nuevo
tango" in BA. (Note: there is a lot of controversy about the term
"nuevo tango," and some of the teachers listed do not call what they
do by this name. However, since we need to have some way to classify
this style of tango, and its accompanying social dance scene in BA, we
have chosen to use this term. More on this on the site.)

Within the next month, we plan to add a monthly calendar to the site as well.

Please let me know if we're missing anything.

Thanks!

Meredith (& Andres)

PS We just posted two new steps of the week as well. Check them out

Subject: Tango Houston...new president Martin Vittone 28 year old from BsAs. Re: [TANGO-L] New! Web guide to the BA "nuevo tango" scene

Dear Meredith:

Thank you so much for the information on the expanding
"nuevo tango" scene in BsAs from the younger dancers.
It would be a fair statement to say that news about
this scene in BsAs is vastly under-reported here on
the Tango-L list....lol.

Fortunately for us here in Houston, the newly elected
President of Tango Houston, Martin Vittone, a native
of BsAs, is 28 years old, so he has some understanding
of this scene in Argentina. He has just returned from
dancing tango every night in BsAs for the last 6
months. Martin is also the one who designed and built
the Tango Houston web site below at:

https://www.tangohouston.net

The other Tango Houston web sites at:

https://www.tangohouston.org

and

https://www.tangohouston.com

are not official and those "assets" have either been
given away to others or not yet been returned to the
organization as of yet. The information on them is
not current, as of yet, so the organization has been
forced to use:

https://www.tangohouston.net

Hopefully this situation will be repaired very soon.

Here in Houston, we also are fortunate to have older
generations of Argentines, Europeans and Americans
working on the new board with Martin Vittone to insure
that all aspects of Argentine tango life are fairly
represented in this community. Tango Houston is a
democratic organization, so it does truly reflect our
membership. You can view the names the new board of
directors on the website. These are the people who
now are helping help us prepare the music for all our
milongas, complete with cortinas. The Argentine
members of Tango Houston have brought all the latest
music direct from BsAS, along with their knowledge of
Argentine customs.

Please come to Houston sometime soon to dance with us.
We now have a very large percentage of twenty year
olds at our milongas in additional to the older
dancers, so we are representing all groups fairly
evenly.

In Houston, every day of every week from Wednesdays
through Mondays, with only Tuesdays off, we dance
Argentine tango all night long. Tango life here in
Houston is now very good. As more people come here to
dance tango, we hope that it will be even better.

Looking forward to hearing more here about the "nuevo
tango" scene in BsAs in addition to all the other
wonderful tango scenes in BsAs. Have a great day.
Hope to see you soon.
