IMHO i put Keith and Rich and others of similar ilk in the same category
as those illustrious geopolitical "planners"/"strategists" that got the
US and the UK into the 2nd Gulf war and are doing everything they can to
set Moslem against Moslem.

Kirchner to date is not in a war only saber rattling. At stake is control
of tremendous oil reserves so there certainly is a big pot of gold for
Kirchner. The situation has and is changing in South America with the
advent of an increasing number of populous governments, who are not
terribly found of the oil oligarchy centered in the US and the UK.
Kirchner would attach financing form many sources and support from most
of the Moslem world, China, and probably Russia and moral support from
many others. The UK would have to pull its "battle hardened" (and
certainly war weary troops) from an unpopular war that has hurt its
treasury to fight another war that would boomerang on its economy even if
its citizens could be convinced it was necessary.

The situation is a lot different now than before for the UK, considerably
more negative. The nearly bankrupt US would be hard pressed to fulfill
its added problems in Iraq and its idiotic push to attack Iran (starting
the next global war even if simply responding to Iran's response to
Israeli aggression). US citizens are growing weary of their children
being consumed as cannon fodder in senseless wars. Clearly it would be to
Iran's advantage to help finance Kirchner and even withhold oil from the
anti-Kirchner world. In such a situation the House of Saud would be in
deep doo-doo politically. Naturally, Venezuelan oil would be lost to the
UK and her allies. Kirchner could reduce unemployment by increasing the
armed forces, improving the economy while winning brownie points with
both the military and the people.

It would be smart for the oil oligarchs to cave, cutting a deal with
Kirchner whether sincere or not. It would be up to Kirchner to safeguard
his gain against the times when his country might not have such
advantage. Conditions are certainly in Kirchner's favor to push the issue
now when conditions are in his favor.

And while you may not care for Maggie Thatcher, i will forever have a
warm place in my heart for that gutsy women. She stood up to the secrecy
of the Bilderbergers, knowing it would cost her dearly in politics.

No, I would be hard pressed to recommend you as geopolitical analysts. To
my thinking you probably believe that the Sunni's were behind the recent
bombing of the shrine in Samarra, failing to ask the most critical
question cui bono the most from the event.

Hi Trini, just thought I'd offer a different opinion.

I think this topc is highly relevant to any tangueros contemplating travel
to Argentina. We are not immune from political realities. For example, the
posted analysis suggesting an advantageous link between Argentina and Iran
is something I never would have thought about, but it certainly is relevant
if there is risk that Argentina might be branded as a "terrorist
sympathizer" government, thus prompting travel restrictions or gestapo
interrogations of those americans returning from there.

I and anyone can delete the message identified in the subject line if we
object or tire of the material. I vote to keep the discussion on the list. I
personally want to stay abreast of what's going on.

I agree. Keep news of happenings in Argentina on the list. It would be good
to have some idea about the situation, both social and political, if we are
travelling there.

Hi Jay,

How was Valentango this year?

I would agree with you about the point about travelers
- if the discussion could be kept to points of fact
and not conjecture or personal political opinions.

It's NOT Argentine Tango.
Keep politics off the list.

Sorry, Martin. I agree with Jay that this material is appropriate.
Argentine Tango is not just a dance to some of us. It represents another culture. In general those of us who live here in the U.S. don't get a whole lot of information about the rest of the world, much to our detriment.
I want to learn about what is going on in Argentina. It helps us understand the culture than is responsible for the music and the dance that we love. And, it helps us understand the behaviors that go along with Argentine Tango.
So, to those of you in the know... Keep it comin'.

Can anyone direct me to the original article about what is happening re:
the Malvinas...? If it was posted here I missed it..
I also think it is appropriate to offer info that raises awareness of
political situations in a country many of us visit often.
An extended discussion is not necessarily appropriate... those
interested can take that off list...
