Hi Sergio,
I can lead both ochos (forward or cortado) in either milonguero, closed
salon, or open embrace. I advocate the cortado first because it seems
more natural, and because the side step provides more possibilities. I
believe the problem we've all experienced when leading followers who try
to "force" a forward stems mostly from the fact that they have been
taught steps and figures instead of how to follow.
I have nothing against the forward, and I use it, but I find that
problems arise much more often than with the cortado, whether the
embrace is open or closed.
As to your final question, it would not pose as glaring a problem, as
follower is already contained in the "closed" side of the embrace,
instead of heading away from it. But again, if led correctly, and
followed, no problem!!
Eureka! Really solved!
Regards,
Michael
