There are some women (a few, who seem to always dance with other women at the milongas. They dance with women almost exclusively... I've danced with them before and IMHO, they are not the paragon of follower skill and grace. These are only a couple of cases and obviously do not represent the skill and grace of every woman who dances or has danced the man's part but at least in their case this practice has not helped them in that respect. Also, I've spoken with other women who don't like it either and will not dance with these women. They say things along the lines of not liking to be in another woman's arms in these settings, it creeps them out..... Frankly, it's none of my business who dances with whom and I would not interfere with their choices. However, as a man I don't like to see this custom. For some reason the women who dance the woman's part with these women dancing the man's part seem to send the message that they prefer dancing with the women "leaders" so I don't !
dance with them. It's just that I don't get any vives that would indicate that these women are interested in dancing with men like me.
I'm not talking about the occasional dance of 2 women or even 2 guys. I totally understand and even approve of these things. I just don't like to see these women dancing the man's part all night long in the milongas. It's just my personal opinion.

Cheers

Dear Ben:

The reason these woman won't dance with you is because
they all are usually doing the simple "close embrace
all the time" tango with these poor women victims and
it is very easy to lead. Also, these women have not
really bothered to learn how to to follow a man
because they have been wasting all their time trying
to learn how to lead. These women neither lead or
follow very well, because they lack overall dance
experience.

No, this is not the case. The women I'm talking about dance rather elaborate stuff although not to well excecuted.... Sure, part of the time it's a close embrace type of thing, but they also do the step de jour (volcada, colgada, gancho, etc..) and whatever is the latest canyengue step as show in some video.

What I don't understand is why they so rarely dance as women and so often dance as men... It does not even matter if the ratio is skewed towards more men than women, they still take women to dance and rarely dance with men (well, maybe they don't get too many invites...). Anyway, I just don't care for it and neither do other people I talk with. Like I said, I will not ask these women or their partners to dance because I don't think they want to be asked and they prefer to dance amongst themselves. Besides, there are lots of other women who like to dance the womans part with a male partner. I will ask them.

Cheers

It's kind of funny and sad to see these discussions degenerate into fights. I can't even remember what the original post or question was about, but now I read a lot of angry, confrontational posts were flames and bombs seem to be the norm. I think that as some one else said already, it would be good to reflect and consider what words one writes and think if one would say those words to the other person to his or her face.... Still, the tango-l is an interesting forum. Where else could one read all sorts of political, ethical and phylosophical aspects of a dance and muisc genre. Not to mention all the connections that people make of tango with everything from Zen meditation to tantric sex, romantic love, rapture, and even martial arts ;-). At least this particular topic led to a refreshing distraction from the endless polemic about dance styles...

Cheers
