Dear Tango-L community
Providence Tango needs your help. Last month during
the festival it was really humid and there had been a
lot of rain. over the course of the weekend a section
of the floor warped up off the ground. Right now there
is an approximately 10 foot square section bubbled up
right on the edge of the dancefloor, unavoidable for
the line of dance.
They need to fix it. A lot of people have been
offering suggestions but it seems hard to find an
expert opinion. Is there anyone out there who is an
expert on floors who can help them? It seems as though
water must be seeping through the brick walls and
coming under the floor.
There is no basement below the floor, this part of the
floor is below grade.
There is low PSI concrete above the ground. Then wood
sleepers in the concrete. Then a plastic vapor
barrier, then 3/4 plywood, Then felt paper, the
plywood is shot into the sleepers and the maple floor
is nailed to the plywood.
They sealed the joint outside where the brick wall
meets the sidewalk before it got really bad and are
planning to do a more extensive seal.
They drilled small holes in floor last week hoping to
ventilate the floor so it would go down.
That seems like all the facts, they've considered
weighing it down, but there has continued to be a lot
of rain. and it hasn't really had a chance to dry out.
It's been warped for a month now.
