John with good sense of humor says: (He seems to always walk a fine line between sarcasm and humor).
"Sergio writes:

"The Mar del Plata Casino required after 6pm, black tie and long dresses."

What did the women wear ?

John G.

(it's a joke! honestly . . .) "

I think that Sergio was talking about men's clothing. So your question John, is a legitimate one.

During my recent trip to Argentina I could see young men wearing long dresses with an opening from the waist down (on the right side), most of them had their nails painted dark blue or black. I saw some at the milongas as well. They did not seem to be gay at all. They had no problem finding women to dance with. Sooo it seems that...

The municipal code from 1915 is not being enforced these days.

They decided that if women can wear pants men should be able to wear dresses. It is a strange sensation to see a black beautiful dress with a lateral opening from which a hairy leg shows up.

So what did women wear? Pan suits (most likely)(Sergio will correct me if I am wrong). :))

Yes! I love it. Maybe with one of those long black dreses I could get
into one of those "women only... no men please!" classes.

Kidding aside, I did have the fortune of taking what used to be a
women's technique class recently. (It was renamed to Follower's
Technique). Wow, what a work out! These followers really work on
their bodies! It was fun and I did learn a lot.

Sounds like a night out at most Goth clubs I have been to.
And what does wearing a dress, painting ones nails or having no problem
finding women to dance with have to do with being gay?

I for one am glad to hear that there are very traditional places to dance in
as well as ones with "Alternitve" ways of expression (which to me seems
normal).
