My question is, how do I tell this teacher that he
shouldn't be teaching on the floor at a milonga, even
if it is just suggestions whispered in my ear
througout the dance?

Hi Anna,

I will try to help you:

INSTRUCTORS:

YOU SHOULD INSTRUCT NOT ON A MILONGA DANCE FLOOR!

IT IS BAD MANNERS, YOU MAY EMBARASS THE PERSON YOU DANCE WITH, YOU DISRUPT THE FLOW OF THE DANCE FOR OTHERS, YOU MAKE A MESS OF THE MOOD. WORSE FOR YOU, IT SHOWS YOU IN A BAD LIGHT.

A GOOD INSTRUCTOR WILL DANCE VERY WELL WITH ANY BEGINNER, A QUIET SIMPLE DANCE IS ALWAYS SATISFYING AND BEAUTIFUL.

MILONGA IS FOR PLEASURE, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO RUIN IT, SELFISHLY, FOR ANYONE !!!

Anna, to get back to your question above:I agree it is not easy to tell someone that you are not interested in instruction, especially as a beginner. With more experience and confidence, it will become more facile to refuse, in general. Give it time...Or to hell with it, tell them to their face...Courage, girl!!
