Subject: tips from buenos aires,

hi all
im in buenos aires right now on my third trip. i just
thought i would take the opportunity to make a few
observations. in every milonga i have been to,the
milonguero, club confiteria, close emabrace style is
still what everyone is dancing. i have very important
advice for anyone who is new here. ALWAYS stay until
the end of the milonga. arrive at 2 if you have to
but in any case always stay till the end. the level
of dancing, for example, at el beso is incedible,
paricularly at that time. the other night there were
only four couples on the floor, each one beautiful and
interesting to watch. there was one foreign woman
there who could hardly dance. again and again she was
asked to dance by wonderful dancers. the great dancers
are much more likely to try you out at the end of the
night when there isnt so much competition around.
i cannot stress enough, that, if you are a leader and
you go to milongas in the center of the city you
probably wont dance at all if you cant dance
milonguero style. i took classes with susana miller
before coming here that helped a lot. i really like
the classes which are offered in this style at la
academia in el beso where other teachers teach the
same style when she is not there, she is going to be
in new york at the end of this month. also im taking
classes with cacho dante and laura grinbank.
a special trick for men is whoever you dance with ask
them to recomend you to their friends and if you get
someone you like make a date for another tanda, for
example, lets dance the next vals together.
im leaving in 6 days when i return im signing up for
all the susana miller workshops when she comes to new
york. she is an amazing teacher and if you ever plan
to come here what she teaches is indespensible.
