Subject: Why students can't dance

Greetings,

If you come to New York you can see why students can't dance. Everybody and
their uncle wants to be a teacher nowadays, many of whom should be still
taking basic classes themselves instead of teaching so the quality of the
teaching is not very high. Every time I turn around I am surprised to find
someone else teaching who was the last one I ever expected.
It also is not in our culture to spend years perfecting technique. People
want the quick fix and the quick glory. It is also the students fault in that
they have serious problems with being humble and perceiving what they do or
don't know. As I have said here before, being a bad dancer is like having an
unfaithful lover - you are the last one to know.

When Milena Plebs and Ezequiel Farfaro were here giving workshops in basic
technique for beginners the class was full of "advanced dancers." Hardly
anyone was able to do her exercises correctly. And what was more conspicuous
was how many people were not even bothering to take the class - the ones who
needed it the most.

Cheers,
Charles
